Dear one -Life is messy and uncertain and full of things we didn’t ask for and, given the choice, might not have chosen. Life is also profoundly, heartbreakingly beautiful and full of things we wouldn’t have been wise enough, creative enough, or brave enough to imagine or choose. So, on this journey, what guides us through it all? What keeps us oriented when we can’t see the big picture? When our personality self feels small and scared? Cultures all around the world for thousands of years had ritual and ceremony, community and guides/ medicine/ spiritual support people, to maintain harmony within individuals, the community, and our wider relationship with the numinous. It’s a connection with all of those, a healthy web of call-and-response with life in all its forms, that become the constellations we navigate by on this wide ocean. It’s feeling ourselves a part of the universal frequency: Divine Love. My tarot cards told me my main theme to pay attention to for 2023 was becoming more skillful in playing my instrument. We are each an instrument and as the winds of life move through and around us, we sound. By saying ‘yes’ to the invitation offered by my cards, I’ve been releasing and recalibrating, continually arriving at the point where my most essential nature meets The Mystery. So when I said ‘yes’ to a quiet invitation to return to Shine Yoga, in Winchester, VA, perhaps for a retreat, my decision came from Spirit *and* me, from a sense of the larger tides. And with each person who has signed up, I feel my personal joy *and* the sacred responsibility and blessing of being an instrument through which the larger tides can work in their life. Sunday is quickly approaching. The fire is lit in the subtle planes, the circle has begun opening, and the threads of our individual and collective medicine have begun weaving themselves together in preparation for our gathering. This is how it works. A portal is opened, we say ‘yes’ and then open ourselves to the unfolding. There are a few more spaces, a few threads, I feel calling a few more of you around the fire for Sunday. I don’t know which of you are hearing that call, feeling the gentle tug, or which of you will say ‘yes’. That’s your part to do, not mine. I do know today is the last day for early bird pricing, so this is a good time if you are feeling the call. I also know we would be honored to have you and the medicine you bring wherever you go. Join us at Shine Yoga in Winchester, VA this Sunday, June 4th. A day for recalibrating your instrument so your voice sounds more clearly and the winds moving through you are those of Love, not something more limited and fearful. There is so much magic possible. With much love, Kate P.S. If you can’t make it in-person with us in Winchester, we have our monthly online community circle coming up on Tuesday, June 13th at 5:30pm ET. It won’t be as deep a dive as a day-long retreat, but it’s another way to gather in sacred space together for more connection and harmony - personally, collectively, and with the greater Mystery. Eventually these gatherings will be open only to our podcast Patreon members, but for now you’re welcome to come as a Patron or to check it out first, for free. Either way, reserve your spot around the fire here. |

Are you a compassion warrior, culture worker, and rebel who cares deeply about humanity; who's tired of doing all the “right things” and still getting what you’re trying to avoid; and who feels trapped between burning it all down or dying but would rather be wildly, and sacredly alive? I'm an animist and ancestral wisdom guide; ceremonialist, and empath. And I love guiding other humans who want to use their burnout and purpose anxiety as a jumping-off point to journey into their shadows and the shadows of modern society in order to de-armor their hearts; remember a deeper, wilder sense of belonging to the world; and reclaim the rich and sacred spark of their aliveness. This newsletter contains wisdom nuggets, podcast episodes, and invitations to paid and free offerings from my business. All in support of remembering a more animist and land-based culture; holding firm to our humanity in a dehumanizing world; and living with compassion, vulnerability, and reverence.
Hello, dear ones - Today was moving day - I left where I’ve been for the last three and a half weeks in North Cork and headed to Dublin for a few nights in preparation for departing Ireland and heading back to the UK (Wales) early next week. I remember when I was going through my vinyasa yoga teacher training, my teachers, Christen and Preston Scott, would remind us that one of the things we practice in vinyasa yoga is transitioning. Unlike many other forms of yoga, vinyasa encourages flowing...
Dear ones - We have a little influx of new folks to the list here: welcome! When I was younger and I'd travel, I would send long notes out with impressions and experiences from the road. Recently, I've been experimenting with bringing that version of me back and interweaving stories of my nomad trails and pilgrimages with my practices in animism, spirituality, folk tales and traditions, and ancestral wisdom. All to wonder how do we shift from burnout to thriving in these modern times? Today...
Happy Northern Hemisphere, Gregorian Calendar Beltane, everyone! (whew -that’s a mouthful) In Irish Gaelic (and Scottish Gaelic though with a slightly different spelling), the etymology of Beltane breaks down something like this: “Beal” meaning either “bright” or possibly a reference to “Bel”, a Sun God and “tine” meaning “fire”. And in both Irish and Scottish Gaelic, the entire month of May is known as Béaltaine (that’s the Irish spelling). So we’re honoring the start of a longer season and...
