on 'laziness' and climbing mountains

Dear ones -

We each have a fire within us.

And we need our fire in these times, perhaps more than ever.

What if your fear of being seen as lazy is wasting your fire and contributing to your burnout?

And what if what we’ve been taught to consider as laziness is our body and brain trying to recalibrate back to more sustainable cycles of efforting and rest?

Your desire to contribute and make a difference is a genuine and beautiful thing… and when it gets entangled with (often unconscious and unexamined) societal conditioning around the evils of laziness and the glories of productivity… we end up primed for burnout.

Today's episode contains my musings on laziness, burnout, our inner fires, and some practices I've been exploring while climbing mountains which are helping me unlearn 'striving' and move from more sustainable cycles of effort and rest.

Here's to the pleasure of challenges which feed us, not drain us.

Here's to the joy of good work, done beautifully and humanely.

If you try the exercises with me, let me know how it goes?

I’d love to hear.

Here’s to climbing our mountains,

Kate

(and here are some pictures from some recent hill walks I've done here in the Cairngorms in Scotland - the same park and mountains where last year I first started playing with the walking nervous system exercise I talk you through in the podcast episode)

Hi! I'm Kate - an intuitive, medicine woman, and guide for embodied Presence

I care with every fiber of my being that you, a creature of soul and soil, are trying to thrive in systems not designed for you. Where ancient wounds of disconnect, inherited traumas, and misalignments with our over-culture leave you feeling out of place, too much, or like a canary in the mine, I see invitations back deeper into your own aliveness; vital next steps to a wiser, more relational future. Let’s navigate your big questions and transitions together. I’ll support you living meaningfully in this world even though you may feel like you were designed for a different one. I’ll keep you orienting to the truth, heart, and essential wholeness of who you are at the edge of great joy and when you need your feet held to the fire of your own journey. Dear ones, Colonization, capitalism, industrialization, the enlightenment… all of these moments and eras in history (and present day); these ways of viewing the world which influenced actions, policies, and human survival patterns....(whether intentionally or not), all of them have worked to sever our human sense of kinship and belonging to the natural world. All of them have waged some level of war against and received some amount of benefit from us losing a more land-based, more...

Hello, dear ones - I’ll keep this email as brief/ direct as possible because if you’re anything like me right now, you’re juggling a lot while also wishing you were hiding away in a cozy cottage with a fire where no one knows where you are. Yesterday was the final full moon of the year. I felt called to spent time with water and hung out in a sauna (with cold plunge tubs) next to the ocean. Just what I needed. Podcast I also dropped an incredibly potent and important podcast episode. Tad...

Dear ones - Here we are - the final month of the year in the Gregorian calendar. I’m writing to you from Ireland and here on Éire and Alba (the longer ago names for Ireland and Scotland), our ancestors would have acknowledged the new year as having already begun at Samhain, end of October, early November. This season, instead of being a time of rushing and full schedules and celebrations, would’ve been recognized as the dark, lean times of the year -where food and fuel are scarce and...
